For The Teacher

Welcome to Heinemann's Making History series

We hope that you will enjoy using our materials and that your learners will benefit from the knowledge, skills and values they will get to know, do and demonstrate when they work through Heinemann's Making History series. We know that you will spend most of your time teaching and interacting with your learners. And it will make a significant difference if you feel that:

  • it is a pleasure to be a teacher
  • you can make a difference to the lives of your learners and your colleagues
  • the work that you do is smart, of a high quality and relevant
  • the skills, knowledge and values that you hold contribute meaningfully to the professional, educational and socio-economic environments in which you work.

We developed this website  to help you to achieve your own professional goals and to meet the challenges of education in South Africa in the twenty first century. Therefore, the aims of this series are to:

  • provide teachers and learners with a tool that they can interact with and use to bring about the envisaged outcomes of the Further Education and Training (FET) National Curriculum Statement (NCS) Grades 10 -12 (General) curriculum.
  • promote good teaching and learning through the careful personal utilisation of these materials that are guided by the curriculum documents.
  • support varied learning and teaching needs, styles and abilities
  • facilitate the transition of learners from the General Education and Training band to access the Higher Education band or the world of work.
  • set appropriate, achievable standards through the provision of interactive Learner, Teacher Support Material (LTSM) that will equip the users with skills, techniques, knowledge and values and attitudes for self-fulfilment and growth, to be meaningful participants in society and the country.

In order to utilise these materials efficiently, it is necessary to understand the principles, features and terminology that are used to unpack the curriculum.
